FAQ
Common questions
What live tooling brands do you repair?
+
We work on the major driven tool brands: Alberti, Eppinger, WTO, MT Marchetti, Evermore, and Hold Well. If your tooling brand isn't listed, call us — most live tooling units share the same internal architecture, so we can usually help.
How long does a live tooling repair take?
+
Most rebuilds take 3 to 7 working days once the unit is on our bench. We diagnose, replace bearings and seals, recheck runout, test under load, and document the work. Rush turnaround is available for urgent production issues.
Do you travel on-site for live tooling repairs?
+
Yes — we travel up to 700 km from our Saint-Lazare base across Quebec and Ontario, with same-day response in greater Montreal. We come to your shop, remove the unit, rebuild it, and reinstall it. For remote jobs that involve moving equipment, call us at (514) 971-1284 and we'll arrange the best logistics for your situation.
How much does a live tooling repair cost?
+
It depends on the unit and the failure mode. A bearing rebuild on a standard driven tool typically runs $800–$1,800 CAD. A full rebuild with new gears, shaft, and seals can reach $3,000+. We give you a firm quote after teardown — never an open invoice.
What are the most common live tooling failures?
+
Bearing wear from coolant ingress is by far the most common — runout climbs, you start scrapping parts, and the noise gets louder. After that: gear damage from a crash, broken drive shaft, and seal leaks letting coolant into the gear chamber.
Why use AVI instead of buying a new live tooling unit?
+
A new Eppinger or WTO unit can run $4,000–$15,000+. A rebuild costs a fraction of that and restores the unit to spec — runout under 5 microns, full torque rating, like-new bearings and seals. New units are still the right call for catastrophic damage, but for the common bearing-and-seal failure, repair pays for itself the first week.
